Market/Platform Fees

Creator Platform Fees Compared

Every platform advertises their commission rate. None of them show you the full cost of selling on their platform. Here is the complete picture.

All figures are estimates based on publicly available market data and platform disclosures. Individual results vary widely based on niche, effort, audience, and market conditions. This is not financial advice.

How much do creator platforms charge?

Most creator platforms charge 15–20% commission. OnlyFans takes 20%, Fansly 20%, FeetFinder 20%. But commission is not the whole story — payment processing (2–3%), currency conversion (1–3%), and minimum payout thresholds affect real take-home. On a $100 sale, creators keep $77–80 after all fees on most major platforms.

How much does OnlyFans take?

OnlyFans takes a flat 20% commission on all creator earnings — subscriptions, tips, pay-per-view messages, and live streaming. Payment processing is included in the 20%. On a $100 sale, you keep $80. The minimum payout is $20, processed within 1–3 business days via bank transfer or e-wallet.

Which platform has the lowest fees?

Ko-fi charges 0% commission on one-time payments (5% on Ko-fi Shop). Patreon starts at 5% on its basic plan. Fanvue charges 15%. For zero-commission selling, creators can use their own website with a payment processor like Stripe (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). The lowest-fee option depends on your sales volume and content model.

Are platform fees tax deductible?

Yes. Platform commissions, payment processing fees, and payout fees are legitimate business expenses that reduce your taxable income. If OnlyFans takes $2,000 in commissions over the year, that is $2,000 less in taxable income. Keep records of all platform statements for tax filing. Consult a tax professional for your specific situation.

Do platforms charge for payouts?

Some platforms charge payout fees on top of their commission. International bank transfers often carry $1–5 fees. Some platforms charge for expedited payouts. Paxum and Cosmo Payment e-wallet transfers are on average free on platforms that support them. Always check the payout terms — a platform with "free payouts" may have higher commission to compensate.

What hidden fees do platforms charge?

Beyond advertised commission: payment processing adds 2–3% on some platforms, currency conversion costs 1–3% for non-USD payouts, chargebacks can cost $15–25 per dispute plus the refunded amount, and some platforms take a higher cut on tips or PPV than on subscriptions. Minimum payout thresholds also lock up your earnings.

Commission Rates by Platform

This table covers every major creator platform and what they actually cost. Commission is the headline number — but processing fees, payout charges, and other costs reduce your real take-home further.

The Real Cost Per $100 Sale

Commission is the number every platform advertises. But between processing fees, payout charges, and currency conversion, the real cost is always higher. Here is what actually happens to a $100 sale on each platform.

Net figures assume USD payouts to a US bank account. International creators face additional currency conversion fees of 1–3% depending on platform and payout method.

Hidden Fees Most Guides Don't Mention

The commission table tells half the story. These are the costs that quietly reduce your take-home income — and most creators don't account for them until tax time.

Payment processing fees. Platforms that advertise "20% commission" sometimes exclude the 2–3% credit card processing fee from that number. OnlyFans and Fansly absorb processing into their 20%. FeetFinder charges processing on top. Always check whether the quoted commission is all-inclusive.

Currency conversion. If you earn in USD but get paid in EUR, GBP, or another currency, expect to lose 1–3% on conversion. Some platforms use mid-market rates, others add a markup. Paxum and international bank wires in practice carry the worst conversion spreads.

Payout minimums. Your money sits in the platform until you hit the minimum payout threshold — $20 on OnlyFans, $100 on some smaller platforms. If you are a new creator earning slowly, this means your first payout could take weeks. Meanwhile, the platform earns interest on your money.

Chargeback costs. When a buyer disputes a charge with their bank, you lose the sale amount plus a chargeback fee of $15–25 depending on the platform. High chargeback rates can get your account flagged or suspended. This is a real cost that disproportionately affects newer creators.

Tip processing fees. Some platforms take the same commission on tips as on subscriptions. Others take a higher cut. On platforms where tips are a major income stream (cam sites especially), this matters. A 50% commission on tips means your fans need to tip $20 for you to receive $10.

Payout Speed & Minimums

How fast you get paid varies wildly across platforms. Here is when you can actually access your earnings and the minimum balance required to request a payout.

Processing times reflect standard payouts. Expedited payout options may be available for an additional fee. First payouts on new accounts often take longer due to identity verification.

Fee Comparison by Platform Type

Creator platforms fall into five categories, each with a different fee structure and income model. The right choice depends on your content type and how you want to earn.

Subscription platforms (OnlyFans, Fansly, Fanvue). Commission: 15–20%. These platforms charge a flat percentage on all earnings. The model favors creators who build recurring subscriber bases. Net income per $100: $80–$85. Best for consistent monthly income with loyal fans.

Clip sites (ManyVids, Clips4Sale). Commission: 25–40%. Higher commissions but access to dedicated buyer bases who browse and purchase individual clips. Net income per $100: $60–$75. Best for creators with large video catalogs who benefit from platform search traffic.

Cam sites (Chaturbate, MFC). Commission: 50%. The highest fees in the creator economy, but cam platforms drive massive live traffic. Net income per $100: $50. Best for performers who thrive in live interaction and can monetize tips and private shows at volume.

Marketplaces (FeetFinder, niche platforms). Commission: 20% + processing. Marketplaces connect sellers with buyers searching for specific content types. Net income per $100: $77. Best for niche creators who benefit from platform-driven buyer traffic without building their own audience.

Direct sales (own site, Ko-fi, Patreon). Commission: 0–12% + processing. Lowest fees but you drive all your own traffic. Net income per $100: $85–$97. Best for creators with existing audiences on social media who can convert followers into paying customers directly.

When Higher Fees Are Worth It

A platform with a 50% commission that sends you 100 paying customers generates more total income than a 0% commission site with zero traffic. Fees matter, but total revenue matters more.

Example: A cam creator earning $5,000/month gross on Chaturbate keeps $2,500 after the 50% commission. Moving to a direct site with 3% fees would net $4,850 — if they could replicate the same traffic. In practice, most creators who leave high-traffic platforms see a 60–80% drop in gross income because they lose the platform's built-in audience.

The winning strategy for most creators: use a high-traffic platform for discovery and audience building, then funnel your most loyal fans to a lower-fee or direct channel for premium content. This way you capture the platform's traffic advantage while keeping more of your highest-value sales.
